the eagles

That was an amazing moment. I woke up one Sunday morning and as I opened the curtains this is what I saw in my yard. I watch them for nearly an hour. The raven who wanted access to the food (a cow pelvis) were all around and at time even pulling on their tails to bug them anf get them to leave.

March 2018

One of the things I love to see on snow is the pattern of birds, landing and taking off

This is just a small bird

This is from a raven making a sharp turn and only one of his wings touched

Why lynx do not get their feet cold: they do not have exposed, hairless pads like house cats, Their feet are entirely covered in thick hair. Which also explains the foot prints not being very sharp

That from a raven taking off on very soft snow ..... and making a bit of a mess of it really

The smooching continued

Probably one of my favourite bird this winter: a red breasted nuthatch

By the end of the month it was warm enough to enjoy a cut of coffee sitting outside, soaking the rays

A wolf in my yard, Look at his tail he knows that this is not a great place for him but everybody was getting hungry

February 2018

A couple of blue jays came to the feeder too. We normally do not get blue jays here

Ravens started smooching

Snow makes weird patterns at this point

And it got even colder and the frost got even higher on my windows

January 2018

This year winter was cold, long and snowy

Had a few night visit of a flying squirrel at the bird feeder. The winter was so harsh that everybody was welcome at the feeder

As usual on cold day birds had frost around their eyes, presumably from their breath

In the morning when I opened the windows the frost was nearly all the way to the top

With frost around his eyes this raven looks particularly cute..... not a term one usually associate with ravens

End of 2017

...and then there was no more pictures.

September 2017

I went hunting and shot a bear (to eat)

And since I shot it I didn't want to waste any part of it so I worked on the hide.

That's another bear who was not shy at all and coming to me.

September was also the month of harvesting the garden.
I had beets
 ...and cabbages

.... and rutabagas

I did a quick trip (flying) to Fort McPherson to visit a friend of mine.
 It is such beautiful country!!

The geese of course started flying south

 Mushrooms were coming out

And I had this awesome experience with a wood pecker.

August 2017

It was such a hot dry summer that I put water out for the squirrels. I started doing it after I noticed them drinking from a container out for another reason.

As a result they became quite comfortable hanging around and this one is lying there relaxing on the handrail

which of course resulting on the squirrels eating my lettuce..... who knew that squirrels ate lettuce??
