April 2017

This is the month when snow disappears

I made bread in a dutch cast iron on top of the fire for the first time

And I went to Fort Smith fishing derbies. Since it is way out of town in the bush and I don't have a skidoo it was a fly in for me

View of Fort Smith from the air as we get back into town

Before it all went there was quite a bit of snow....at least I thought so but this year it is way more

Redpole singing away

Even in April they like seeds

March 2017

I went to Fort Chipewyan fishing derbies

The mink being cute

The redpoles on a cold day, all fluffy and with ice crystals on their heads

February 2017

Since crossing the river requires making sure that the ice is strong enough where you cross after I find a path I mark it. This is the way everybody does it.

A fisher came to visit at night..... to look for food of course

Smaller creature: a mink

Squirrel: this is what they look like from underneath

Pine grossbeaks

January 2017

I'm going to try to put a few pictures foe each month of 2017.

The usual random stuff.

I did walk across the river (about 700m where I am) and here a view from the other side.

Me crossing.... with a long pole in my hand in case I go through the ice so I can use it to bridge across the hole to pull myself out. Just a safety measure.
