The Cabin at the Lake

when I stay at the lake I am very lucky to be able to park the camper in the yard of my friend's cabin. I don't really want to show the cabin so here are some shots of the feel of the cabin.

The Lake

Here are photos of the lake where I was camping somewhere in the Northwest Territories

this spot below reminds me so much of my very favorite spot in Mozambique. Each time I drive I feel a little pull at my heart.

But here is one thing you cannot get in Mozambique.
An explosion of flavour.

Fort Resolution, Northwest Territories

I spent a day in Fort Resolution. It was a very smoky day because of the 135 wild fires in the Northwest Territories right now, but what a spot, on the shore of Great Slave Lake.
Honestly when you look around you could easily convince yourself that you are in a small fishing village on the East Coast of Canada.

These days I am looking for a cabin to buy, rent or build and I like the little double storey cabin in the back

I love this one (below) too and I am pretty sure that I would be able to build it myself.

And here is another one.None of those are either for rent or for sale but I am looking at them as a source of inspiration.

The Rest of the Road to the Northwest Territories

And after Jasper I started driving north somewhat more "seriously" or at least more directly.

I so want to go to at least one more of the four national parks in the Northwest Territories. So far the only one I have visited is Wood Buffalo Park because it is the only one you can drive to, the other you can only access with a private flight.

Jasper National Park

After the David Thompson Highway I followed the Icefields Parkway to Jasper National park. It really had been a long time since I had been to this part of the world during the high of tourist season so it was a little shocking to see how busy things were. Nicely I had no intentions of camping anywhere near Jasper townsite, I all along intended to camp at Pocahontas campground near Miette hot Springs, because there was no camp sites to be had anywhere near town.

The mountain goats were doing their tourist season duty and hanging around near the road......

....... and creating a traffic jam on the road.

A wood pecker was busy around the campsite. I love piliated wood peckers because they look just like wood peckers in cartoons.

David Thompson Highway

On my way to the Northwest Territories I first drove the David Thompson Highway and camped there for a few days.
I love the D.Thompson Highway (which is Alberta Highway 11). There are quite a few provincial campgrounds and this time I also camped on some public land where you can camp for free but where there are no facilities. It was a beautiful spot and I was really impressed on how clean it was even though it is very popular.
I was there for the Canada Day long week end so I have already posted one picture from the public land spot, but just the same here are a couple of the spot where I was camping.

Canada Day long week end

for whatever reason I really like the shot below.

Endangered specie: phone booth in the wild.

Loons on Goldeye Lake.

Loons again but this time you can see the mummy carrying the baby on her back.

Is it cold? Is it hot? Is this Canada or is this Hawaii?
