Early June in Johannesburg and Magnolias are blooming

I realize that magnolias are not natives, but they look so nice.
And here you can see how they are really in somebody else's garden behind old fashion, sort of cute, spikes on top of the enclosing wall.

Do you realize that magnolias are not pollinated by bees?
I remember vaguely doing a paper on evolution of angiosperms during my undergrads and early flowers are believed to be very much like magnolias.

the oldest ever discovered fossils of flowers look just like magnolias.
