Socorro, New Mexico and the Karl G. Jansky VLA

Socorro turns out to be a really nice little town. It has everything: banks, restaurants, grocery stores (one which carries organic products), post office, laundromat etc, and it is quite pretty.

It is hard to take photos here and not have the sky dominate. Somehow the sky does dominate here both in photos and in "real life".

Today there is a Christmas community feast. Everybody is invited. Some locals even mentioned that since I was in town I was invited too.

In the afternoon I went to see the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. It is an array used for radio astronomy. It is located in a beautiful setting and it looks like a very large outdoor piece of modern art. I really enjoyed it. the photos do not really do it justice. This is usually the case for very large things.

This is where the movie Contact with Judie foster was filmed.
